What to Expect from a Light Jet
Light jets are the most popular size on the charter market. They seat five to seven, cruise above most weather at 41,000 to 45,000 feet and fly about 1,000 to 2,000 nautical miles nonstop, depending on the model.
They range from models like the Citation CJ2 and Learjet 31 to larger, longer-range jets like the Phenom 300, Citation CJ4 and Pilatus PC-24, which cover most of the East Coast and Midwest nonstop.
Best For
- Trips of one to three and a half hours, such as New York to Palm Beach or Los Angeles to Aspen
- Two to six passengers
- Business day trips, where a quick turnaround matters more than cabin space
Keep in Mind
- Cabins are about 4 ft 9 in to 4 ft 11 in tall, so you cannot stand up.
- Ski bags and golf clubs take up space quickly. Tell us about them when you book.

Light Jet Charter Questions
How much does it cost to charter a light jet?
Light jets typically run $3,800 to $5,500 per flight hour, and operators bill at least 2.5 hours for each day you fly. For example, Los Angeles to Aspen estimates at $10,900 to $15,900 one way before taxes and fees. Use the calculator above for your exact trip.
How far can a light jet fly nonstop?
Plan on about 1,400 nautical miles (1,611 statute miles) with passengers and fuel reserves. Winds, weather and airport altitude can reduce that.
How many passengers fit in a light jet?
Most light jets seat five to seven. For long legs or lots of luggage, plan on one fewer passenger than the maximum.
Can a light jet fly coast to coast?
Not nonstop. Most need one fuel stop between New York and Los Angeles. For nonstop coast-to-coast flights, choose a super-midsize or larger jet.
