How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Private Jet?

Chartering a private jet typically costs about $2,500 to $20,000 per flight hour, depending on the size of the aircraft. You pay for the whole aircraft, not per seat. A short trip in a light jet costs from about $10,900 because operators bill a daily minimum of 2 to 4 hours. Taxes, airport fees and any repositioning are added on top.

How Much Does a Private Jet Cost per Hour?

Charter is priced by the flight hour for the whole aircraft, not per seat. These are typical rates and the least a trip costs in each class. For your exact trip, use the cost calculator.

What Is Included in a Private Jet Charter Price?

Every Air1 quote lists these items separately, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Flight Hours

Most of the price is the hourly rate multiplied by time in the air. Taxi time and fuel stops count as well.

Daily Minimums

Operators charge a minimum number of hours for each day the aircraft flies, from 2 hours for a turboprop to 4 for heavy jets. Two short hops on the same day cost less than the same hops on separate days.

Repositioning

If the nearest suitable jet is based somewhere else, the flight to pick you up may be charged. Picking the right aircraft keeps this low.

Federal Excise Tax

Domestic US charters carry a 7.5% federal excise tax plus a small per-passenger segment fee.

Airport and FBO Fees

Landing, parking and handling fees vary by airport. They are higher at busy airports and during events.

Crew Overnights

If the crew waits for your return, expect hotel and daily allowances for each night. On long waits, two one-way trips can cost less.

Seasonal Extras

De-icing in winter, peak-day minimums on holidays, and catering or Wi-Fi if you ask for them.

International Fees

Flights abroad add customs and immigration fees, overflight and navigation charges, and sometimes landing permits.

How Can You Make a Private Jet Charter Cheaper?

Pick the Smallest Jet That Fits

A light jet costs roughly half as much per hour as a super-midsize. If your group and bags fit and the trip is nonstop, the smaller jet is the better buy.

Fly One-Way When the Return Is Days Away

Keeping a jet and crew waiting adds overnight costs. For long stays, two one-way trips often cost less than a round trip.

Use a Jet Based Nearby

When the aircraft starts close to your departure airport, there is little or no repositioning to pay for. We search for the best-placed aircraft first.

Group Short Hops on the Same Day

Because operators bill a daily minimum, two short flights on one day can cost less than the same flights on two days.

Choose the Right Airport

Secondary airports can mean lower fees and a jet based nearby, and they are often closer to where you are going.

Book Early for Peak Dates

Holidays, ski weeks and big events have fewer aircraft and higher minimums. More notice means more choice.

Charter Cost Questions

Do private jet prices change by season?

Yes. Holidays, ski season and big events bring more demand and fewer free aircraft, and some operators raise daily minimums on peak days. Booking early for those dates gives you more choice and better prices.

Is private jet charter priced per seat?

No. You pay for the whole aircraft, so the price is the same whether one person flies or every seat is full. That makes charter better value for groups.

What is the cheapest way to fly private?

A turboprop or very light jet for short trips, a jet based near your departure airport, and a one-way trip instead of a round trip when your return is several days later.

Why is a round trip not always double the one-way price?

A same-day return can share one daily minimum. A return days later may add crew overnights, while two separate one-way trips may each need repositioning. We price both options for you.
