Aspen airport guide
Aspen is one of the hardest airports in the country to fly into, which is why planning matters more here than almost anywhere else.
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport sits at 7,820 feet in a narrow valley, 3 miles from downtown. It has one runway, a nighttime curfew and a wingspan limit, and on holiday weekends the ramp fills up days in advance. When everything lines up it is the most convenient ski airport in North America. When it doesn’t, having a plan B at Eagle County makes the difference.
We book Aspen with operators whose crews fly the approach regularly, and we check ramp availability and the weather forecast before you commit. Every quote includes an Eagle alternate.

Which airport is best depends on where you are going on the ground, the time of day and the aircraft.

Eagle County airport guideThe local rules and conditions that affect your aircraft, schedule and price.
ASE is closed to flights from 11 pm to 7 am. If your flight leaves late in the day from the coast, allow for delays or plan to land at Eagle.
The 95-ft wingspan limit means aircraft like the Global 7500 cannot land at Aspen. Heavy jets like the Gulfstream G450 are fine.
At 7,800 feet, jets can’t carry as much fuel on takeoff. Longer departures, such as Aspen to New York, may need a fuel stop in a smaller jet.
International flights clear customs somewhere else first, often Eagle, Denver or your first US airport.
Crews often reposition to Rifle or Grand Junction because ramp space is so limited. We arrange cars for arrivals at either airport.
Book early for these dates. Quieter periods offer the widest choice of aircraft.

Light and midsize jets such as the Citation CJ3 are the most common choice for Aspen. For coast-to-coast trips with a full ski load, a heavy jet like the G450 flies nonstop and stays inside the wingspan limit.
From Los Angeles, a light jet estimates at about $11,000 to $16,000 one way. From New York, a midsize jet runs about $23,500 to $29,500 and a heavy jet $36,500 to $56,000. These are before taxes and fees, and holiday weeks carry premiums because aircraft and parking are scarce.
Every Aspen quote includes Eagle County (EGE) as an alternate. If you divert, we arrange ground transport for the 1 hr 30 min drive.
Only until 11 pm. Flights cannot land or take off between 11 pm and 7 am.
Yes. Tell us how many ski bags you are bringing when you request a quote, because they decide which aircraft will fit everything. Light jets usually take two to four sets.
