How the Estimate Works

Flight time starts from the distance between the two airports and the typical cruise speed of each class. We add time for airway routing, climb and descent, and for prevailing westerly winds, which make westbound flights slower than eastbound ones. That time, or the class’s daily minimum if higher, is multiplied by typical hourly rates.

Typical rates run from about $2,500 per flight hour for a turboprop to $20,000 for an ultra-long-range jet, with a daily minimum of 2 to 4 hours. For rates by jet size, sample trip prices and what is added on top, read the private jet charter cost guide.

About the Calculator

How accurate is the estimate?

It uses typical hourly rates for each class and the great-circle distance between the airports. Your actual quote depends on the specific aircraft, where it is based, the date and airport fees, so it can come in higher or lower.

Why is my short trip priced at more hours than the flight time?

Operators bill a minimum number of hours for each day the aircraft flies: 2 hours for a turboprop, 2.5 for a light jet, 3 for midsize and super-midsize jets, and 4 for heavy and ultra-long-range jets.

Why don’t I see every aircraft type?

The calculator only shows aircraft with enough seats for your group that can fly the trip without stopping for fuel.

What is not included?

Federal excise tax (7.5% on US domestic flights), segment fees, airport and FBO fees, de-icing, catering, crew overnights and any repositioning to your departure airport.
