Usually not. Charter jets are rented as a whole aircraft, so you pay for every seat and choose who flies with you. If you want to buy a single seat, semi-private airlines such as JSX sell individual seats on fixed schedules between a limited number of cities. For groups of three or more, splitting a whole charter often brings the price per person close to a premium airline ticket on short trips.
It is a common question, and the short answer is that charter is sold by the aircraft, not by the seat. That is what makes it private: your schedule, your airports and only the people you choose.
Why Charter Jets Are Not Sold by the Seat
A charter flight goes when and where one client wants. Selling individual seats would mean finding strangers with the same departure airport, destination, date and time, and any one of them changing plans would affect everyone. So operators rent the whole aircraft.
Semi-Private Airlines
Semi-private airlines, such as JSX, sell individual seats on small aircraft, from private terminals, on fixed schedules. They are a good fit when:
- You are traveling alone or as a couple
- Your route and time match their schedule
- You do not mind sharing the cabin
They are not charter: you cannot choose the time, the airport or who else is on board.
Splitting a Charter
